- Set up appropriate filing systems of existing and potential accounts, keeping up to date and properly categorized.
- Research the market on a continuing basis, to determine where business comes from, how it is influenced, who the hotel clients are, how they normally arrive in the locations, etc..
- Establish, maintain and use his library of reference materials, periodicals, texts and sales leads: stay abreast of market trends and hotel selling techniques.
- Together with the DOS&M formulate a sales & marketing program one year in advance and plan week to week sales activities with a view to maximizing the use of staff time and promotion money.
- Maintain within the community and in neighbouring marketing areas, contacts with airlines, travel agents, commercial houses, private clubs, professional associations, embassies etc.. to procure new business and repeat business for hotels. This will be done by means of personal sales calls, telephone contact and written communication.
- Make recommendations to the operations director for local advertising campaigns: media, selection, timing, copy, etc suggest expenditures for direct mail programs, special promotions, estimate costs of anticipated sales departmental expenses.
- Direct, supervise and administer all personnel within the sales department.
- Submit monthly and weekly sales plans (Monthly) as well as daily sales/activity reports, which will also include persons entertained for sales purposes. These plans and reports will be submitted for all members of the sales staff on the first working day of the month.
- The Sales Manager will submit monthly sales activity report to the DOS&M to include all new business booked during that month.
- A weekly sales meeting will be held to include the unit General Managers & the DOS&M.
- Any other duties which could be assigned by the hotel management in the future.
