With a team of 100+ tech and market consultants, robusta maintains an impactful footprint across EMEA and engages with its clients through its two key operations hubs in Egypt and Germany.What you’ll be doingWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Developer with strong expertise in PHP Laravel to design, develop, and optimize backend systems for scalable, secure, and high-performance applications. The ideal candidate will lead backend initiatives, mentor junior developers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions.Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend systems and APIs using PHP Laravel.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers and other stakeholders to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following best practices and coding standards.
  • Optimize application performance, security, and scalability.
  • Manage and maintain databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), including schema design and optimization.
  • Implement and maintain RESTful APIs and third-party integrations.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level developers.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing applications.
  • Stay updated on emerging backend technologies, Laravel updates, and best practices.
Requirements
  • 4–7 years of professional backend development experience.
  • Proven expertise in PHP and deep knowledge of the Laravel framework.
  • Strong understanding of OOP, MVC architecture, and software design principles.
  • Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git).
  • Experience in building and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Good understanding of application security principles and performance optimization.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):
  • Experience with microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of Docker or containerized environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience with automated testing (PHPUnit, Pest).
